About Me

Hi, I’m Ibukun Taiwo and I’m your friendly internet writer.

Ibukun Taiwo

Get to know me in 3 minutes!

Passion

I really, really love books, science fiction and fantasy,  old school music (mostly 80s and 90s stuff), videogames and wrestling (it’s scripted, not fake, there’s a difference!).

The older I get, the more my favorite authors tend to fluctuate but Malcolm Gladwell, Ken Liu and Brandon Sanderson have been consistently on my list.

I have a weird obsession with Seychelles even though I’m yet to visit.

I do a lot of volunteer work with teenagers. It makes me happy.

Career and experience

I started out my career writing exclusively for a living. Eventually, I moved up the career ladder, taking on other responsibilities such as communications strategy, media relations, working with and training other  writers, videographers and designers.

I’ve worked with technology startups, newspaper publishers, research institutes, non-profits, founders and activists.

My day jobs have been at TechCabal (Managing Editor), Enterprise54 (Technology Editor), and Buffrspace (Content and Communications Lead), in that order.

I am currently the Head of Content, Media and Communications of the Sustainable and Inclusive Digital Financial Services initiative, at the Lagos Business School.

Writing remains my first love though. Whenever I’m not stuck within the confines of an office space, I moonlight as a copywriter, editor and ghostwriter (whichever hat fits).

Through out my career, I’ve covered diverse subjects and themes — technology startups, coworking, the sharing economy, and fintech & financial services.

Business rationale

I love stories and I’d love nothing else than to spend all day reading them. But I can’t (because that’s toying with perpetual starvation). So, I do the next best thing which is writing and editing them.

Remember when I said I usually moonlight as a copywriter, editor and ghostwriter?

I usually get paid for doing that.

I LIKE getting paid to do that.

I live in Lagos, Nigeria. But I’ve worked with clients from all over the world – Ghana, UK, Canada and of course, at home here in Nigeria.
